In a luxury and famous island as Ibiza is, champagne is a must to be included in any special meal. Champagne is considered one of the keys to succeed in any chic celebration.
There is a wide range of champagnes according to their quality and price. On that article we pretend to highlight just a few of them, those which are considered the best champagnes all over the world.
This cellar for champagne production was founded in 1776. The name of Cristal is due to the fact that it is the first one bottled in a cristal clear bottle. It was bottled on request for Zar Nicolas who wanted to see properly what he was drinking in order not to be poisoned. Cristal offers delicious champagnes made with sweet wine. One of those, which is called Louis Roederer Cristal Rosé 2002, has been well-chosen as the world’s best champagne. Those bottles are not easy to find in Spain, but in Ibiza are quite demanded.
Dom Perignon was thoroughly made in 1694 by a blind monk whose main aim was to create the greatest champagne of the planet. Dom Perignon became the most expensive and exclusive drink all over the world, served in numerous important international celebrations, including as an example, the prince Charles and Diana’s wedding.
One of Dom Perignon’s special vintage is KrugOenothèque Rosé 1992, with its 20 years of maduration that makes it unique. Just a few bottles will be sold in Spain; if you can afford it, just taste it and enjoy it. It´s worth trying it out.
Since 1843 Krug’s familiar cellar elaborates that delightful champagne generation after generation. The inalterability of the traditional elaboration process is the key of its excellence over the years.
The most preciated champagnes from Krug are Clos du Mesnil and Clos d’Ambonnay. On the one hand, Clos du Mesnil is made with excellent chardonnay grapes harvested in 1998, 2000 and 2003. On the other hand, Clos d’Ambonnay is considered the summum of Pinot Noir grapes, harvested in 1995,1996,1998 2000.
Its ideal ageing process, due to the underground limestone craters built by Romans under Reims, gives to Pommery’s champagne a special taste. There are some different cuvées, all perfectly made.
Founded in 1772, Philippe Clicquot´s cellar was the pioneer on the rosé champagne production. Nowadays, this brand is considered the leader by inventing new trends and modern techniques for the elaboration process. “Remuage”, for example, was an innovative process introduced by Veuve Clicquot and quickly imitated by its main competititors.
Apart from the top five ones introduced above, there are also some other important and exclusive cellars comparable to them: Taittinger, Ruinart, Perrier Jouet, Juve & Camps, Roederer, Bollinger, Möet & Chandon, G.H. Mumm and D. Laurent Perrier, among others.
